about me
Who am I? First, and foremost, I am a human. I love the saying “Human + Kind= Be Both” Whoever created that was speaking my language! For one…it has a formula! When things are consistent and clear that makes me a happy human. But it’s also clever and true. With all the things going on in the world I am sometimes in shock that it’s not so easy for people to remember this but I am also in awe when I see how many people are evolving, growing, and learning right alongside each other.
I have a wealth of education because I love learning! I have formally studied Speech/Language Pathology, Audiology, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and Applied Behavior Analysis. I also have a side-gig working with people and their animals helping them to be assistance, therapy or emotional support animals. I am autodidactic and have gone down the rabbit whole since 2020 of learning about neurodiversity, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC affirming care. I LOVE to DEEP DIVE into learning and have spent so many hours self-teaching that I feel like I should have another degree! I’ve read over 50 books on Neurodiversity! Someday I’ll get my doctorate- just not sure in what yet. I am interested in so many things…psychology, occupational therapy, special education law, social justice, educational leadership, and more! It’s hard to choose just one! Learning about intersectionality and how to break down barriers to make learning and living easier is where it’s at for me.
My experiences in life have had one common theme- helping others! That’s what I do. I am also an entrepreneur. I remember as young as 11 years old connecting with other neurodivergent families and their kids and creating needed services. As a special education teacher I have worked at an airport in a daycare, a high school residential, a co-op collobative special education program, K-2 public school classes, 3-5 public school classes, and K-5 public school resource rooms. I have over 25+ years of expereince working in the education field in Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Washington.
As a consultant I have worked with parks & rec and other camp programs training their staff to support their participants and to learn about inclusion and accessibility. I have spoken at a national conference about this topic for aquariums and zoos. I work together with teens and young adults to learn about what accommodations they need to be more successful at work, home, in activties, and in school. I love to volunteer my time on boards or committees and have years of experience helping non-profits learn about inclusion, diversity, equity, accessbility and social justice.
